What is the CSE Links directory?

CSE Links is a directory of Custom Search Engines that have been constructed using the Google Coop CSE tool. We do not accept 'traditional' sites or webpages, only CSE enabled ones! So, if you have a 'traditional' website then why not make it CSE enabled and then come back and suggest it. The CSE Links directory is hierarchically arranged by subject - from broad to specific. As the list of links grows then the CSE link directory structure will be adjusted to keep its contents balanced in terms of the number of listings per category. CSE Links is maintained by editors who evaluate CSE sites for inclusion in the links directory. All submissions are subject to editor evaluation and review.

We care a great deal about the quality of the CSE Links directory. The site is run by a small group of successful small business owners working collectively together who pride themselves on being highly selective. We don't accept all sites! Our mission is to make the CSE Links directory as useful as possible for both our visitors and CSE creators. We do not want to have the directory include all of the CSE enabled sites that could be listed.

How do I suggest a site to CSE Links

To keep the CSE Links site running smoothly and to assist us in exercising our editorial discretion, we have set up policies for submitting and suggesting sites for our consideration. We may reject, delete, or edit submissions that violate these policies or that we otherwise believe should not be included in the directory. You should take a few moments to understand these policies and the steps necessary to suggest a site before you begin.

Step 1

Determine whether your site is an appropriate suggestion to the CSE Links site:
  • Do suggest sites "under construction" Do not wait until a site is complete before suggesting it! CSE sites are incomplete by their very nature as they can always be improved!
  • Do not suggest duplicate CSE sites. Duplicate sites are sites that contain identical CSE content, but have altogether different URLs.
  • Do not suggest CSE URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other CSE sites you may have listed in the directory.
  • Do not suggest any CSE sites which contain illegal content. Examples of illegal content include child pornography, material that infringes intellectual property rights, libellous content and content that specifically advocates, solicits or aids illegal activity.
  • Do not suggest pornographic sites - there is no "Adult" category.
  • Do not suggest any site with an address that redirects to another address.
  • Please suggest non-English sites to the appropriate category under "World".

Step 2

Do a quick search in the directory to be sure your site isn't already listed and check out a few of the CSEs that have been submitted. Each CSE link has its own detail page where can rate the CSE or leave you comments about the CSE. Why not leave a comment on an already included CSE before suggesting your own. This way as people add to the directory we will see anatural growth in the feedback provided for individual CSE creators. You will then need to register as an Editor. The reasons that we require you to register as an Editor are manifold. For example, if you have multiple CSE then suggesting is easy for you and approving is easier for us. If your CSE changes then you can always log into your editor account and make appropriate changes.

Step 3

Identify the single best category for your site. As CSE LInks grows we will expand to cover an enormous array of subjects for CSE creators to choose from. You should initially suggest a site to the single most relevant category. Sites suggested to inappropriate or unrelated categories may be moved to the most appropriate category or, in extreme cases, rejected altogether. Some links categories may be locked from time to time to prevent inappropriate or too many sugestions.

Step 4

Once you have chosen the best category that currently fits your CSE site, make sure that you are logged in as an Editor and navigate your way to that category on CSE Links site and then click "Add your CSE here!". Follow the instructions on the submission form carefully. Please note that the description of your CSE should accurately describe the content of the site and it is your choice as to how concise or verbose you make it. Descriptions should not generally be promotional in nature but they should always be objective, interesting and well written description.

What happens once I have suggested a site?

A CSE Links Quality Team editor will review your suggestion to determine whether to include it in the CSE Links directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take some time before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit each of your CSE sites to the directory once.

How do I update my CSE Site(s)?

Once your CSE site has been accepted for inclusion in the CSE Links directory but you are unhappy with how the site is described or titled, you may editand update this through your Editor panel. If you are dissatisfied with the category in which your site is listed, you may send an e-mail explaining your disagreement. Please be polite and civil to us! Threatening or abusive behavior will not be tolerated, full stop.

Comments made through our "Contact Us" form are reviewed by CSE Links staff. We take all feedback seriously and give it our thoughtful consideration. Please remember that we have to exercise our discretion and make numerous judgment calls as to how to make the CSE Links site as useful as possible, to both our suggeters and users. We cannot possible please everyone 100 percent of the time - we are realists!

What are the benfits of listing my site at CSE Links?

Unfortunately, we cannot answer this for you - they are whatever you percieve them to be. What we can tell you is that we will do our best to make CSE Links the best known, most respected, most popular, most used CSE links directory on the planet. The co-founders both run successful small businesses where most of their business comes from achieving natural visitors from all the major search engines. The CSE Links directory site is search engine friendly which means that the links from us to you are completely open and visible.

How does CSE Links exercise Editorial discretion?

Making CSE Links a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the CSE Links directory. That discretion covers what CSE sites to include, where in the link directory sites are placed, whether and when to include more than one link to a site (multiple listings are possible) and the content of the CSE title and description of the CSE site. A CSE site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion. You may not always agree with how we exercise our editorial discretion, but we sincerely hope that you will recognize that we are trying our best to make fair and reasonable decisions. Contact Us - the CSE Links team welcomes comments and feedback about the directory generally. Please let us know what you think, and how we can improve the service. Best wishes - John and Paul.
